What Is a Full Hookup Site? 30 Amp vs 50 Amp, Explained Simply

If you're new to RV camping, the booking questions can feel like a pop quiz. Full hookup or water-and-electric? 30 amp or 50? Here's the whole thing explained the way we explain it at the office window — no jargon, no judgment.
A full hookup site has three connections waiting at your site: water, electric, and sewer. Water fills your fresh tank and runs your faucets. Electric powers everything from the A/C to the coffee maker. Sewer is the one people forget to appreciate — it means your gray water (sinks, shower) and black water (toilet) drain right at your site, so you never have to pack up and drive to a dump station mid-weekend.
A water-and-electric site skips the sewer connection. Your tanks hold everything until you empty them on the way out. Perfectly fine for a short stay or a light crew — and it's the budget-friendly option, starting at $74 a night here.
Now the amp question. 30-amp and 50-amp describe how much electricity your RV can draw, and your RV already made this decision for you — look at its power cord. A 30-amp plug has three prongs; a 50-amp plug has four. Thirty amps comfortably runs one air conditioner and your basics. Fifty amps is for bigger rigs that run two A/C units, a residential fridge, and a microwave all at once without tripping anything.
The rules of thumb: match the site to your cord and you'll never think about it again. A 50-amp rig can plug into a 30-amp site with a cheap adapter — you'll just have to take turns with the big appliances. And if it's a hot July weekend, that second air conditioner is exactly why 50-amp owners book 50-amp sites.
What it costs at Butterfly: 30-amp full hookup sites start at $85 a night ($545 weekly), and 50-amp full hookups at $93 ($601 weekly). Both come with a fire ring, picnic table, and wifi, with pull-thru sites available if backing in isn't your favorite hobby.
