Six Flags Plus a Campfire: A Two-Day Family Weekend Itinerary

Some families come to Jackson for Six Flags and discover camping. Others come for the camping and discover Six Flags is up the road. Either way, two days is the sweet spot — one for the park, one for the campground. Here's the itinerary our campers swear by.

Friday evening: arrive and settle in. Get the camper leveled or the cabin unpacked while there's still daylight, walk the loop to get your bearings, and keep dinner simple — hot dogs over the fire never let anyone down. Most summer Fridays there's something happening at the pavilion, so check the events board when you check in.

Saturday: park day. Eat a real breakfast at your site (trust us — this is the money-saving move of the whole weekend), pack water bottles and sunscreen, and get to Six Flags for opening. Do the big coasters early before the lines build, take the Safari drive-through in the afternoon when everyone needs to sit down in the air conditioning, and head home when the kids hit the wall. Back at camp, it's showers, a campfire dinner, and s'mores. If anyone still has energy, Saturday night at Butterfly usually means B.I.N.G.O in the pavilion — and it gets competitive.

Sunday: camp day. This is the day the weekend actually becomes a vacation. Morning walk around the grounds, a swim in the pool, fishing rods down at the back pond — campers pulled in bass up to five pounds this season — and one more unhurried meal outside before you pack up.

What to book: a full-hookup RV site if you're bringing the camper (30-amp from $85 a night, 50-amp from $93), a wooded tent site if you're keeping it classic, or one of our 8 cabins if you want beds, A/C, and a mini-fridge with zero setup. Cabins go first on summer weekends, so call ahead — 732-928-2107.

One weekend, two very different kinds of fun, and everybody rides home tired and happy. That's the whole recipe.

🦋 See you around the campground! 🦋
